The Marathon Training Continues...

Finally added a category for my ongoing effort to run in a marathon. (Yeah... it's about time, I know, but I've been out running, so you'll have to forgive me.)
It may seem unbelievable, but I'm on track to run the P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon on January 9, 2005. This hasn't been easy -- while I've never been fat, I've been burnin' off the cheesesteak gut I gained during my time in Philly by dragging myself out running every day.
Of course, living in the desert where it's regularly above 100, presents its own challenges. Like a desert rat, I've been scurrying around Tempe at 5:30 in the morning, moving from water fountain to water fountain. In the evenings, I've been taking advantage of ASU's pool... which is temperature controlled to be right in between 78 and 82 degrees all the time. Progress is being made. Every day, I get a little bit stronger, can run a little further, and travel the distance a little faster. I've successfully swam over a mile... (36 full laps in an olympic-sized pool.) That was satisfying. I ran about 6 miles this morning and didn't die. Saturday, I'm going to try and do about 8.
The goal is to be able to do 20-25 miles comfortably in a week by September, where I'll begin one of those intensive 18 week training schedules. I expect to not have too much trouble doing ten miles in a single session by then, especially when it starts to cool down. If it ever does, that is.
So... we'll see. I think it's time to get serious and upgrade the shoes. I might even sell out and buy one of them fancy running shirts...
.... because as sad as it is, I've been eating lunch at lunchtime rather than going to the pinball arcade.

Do I detect some rejected, dejected Arizona-area pinball machines? Shall we weep for them?

...We have the technology, we can make him better than he was before.... better, stronger, faster... with a fancy running shirt.
Good for you, Marathon Dude.
Remind me to bring you a few cheesesteaks for the after-marathon party. :-)
