26.2 miles is a really long way to run.

I managed to run The Phoenix Rock 'n' Roll marathon in 4:47:15... which, I've gotta tell you, I'm satisfied with. I beat Al Gore's personal record of 4:58, but fell far short of W.'s 3:44.

The person who won finished in 2:14, if you can believe that.

It was a perfect morning for a long run like that -- there were signs that it would rain a few days ago, but that appears to have held off. Sunny, but cool... a lovely day in the desert.

Since this was a Rock 'n' Roll marathon, there were bands out along the course. The Close Enough String Band sounded fantastic... but most of it was pretty silly. One Foot in the Grave, a punk band outta Sun City, is something special. I didn't have time to sit and watch, of course...

Everyone was very supportive out there. Folks from all over run this race... and there were large, cheering crowds along almost the entire course. It was a heck of a lot more interesting than those long, boring training runs.

All in all, pretty fun... but now I'm in a lot of pain.
