Now I'm Am The 118th Fastest 10k Runner in the Valley | Posted: 2005-11-13 21:21:47 | 6287 hits | View in Hi-Fi Mode

Not exactly my best run from a "not sure if I'm gonna puke before I cross the finish line" perspective, but this year's New Times 10k went pretty well. I actually picked up a ton of time from last year. (Incredibly, I was 19th out of 234 for my age group...)

Maybe the change of venues helped. This year, they ran the race in Tempe -- apparently due to light rail construction in downtown Phoenix. It's a lot more fun to run around Tempe -- Curry hill and all -- than to cruise around the empty office buildings in Phoenix proper. Heavy metal bands don't look quite as out of place on the corner of Curry and College as they did down on Central at 8:30 on a Sunday morning.

Gotta love the home turf advantage, I guess.

Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman -- who apparently lives over by me in N. Tempe -- came out to both introduce and run the race himself. I actually saw a lot of familiar faces from some of the other recent races... unfortunately, for the most part, I saw them as they passed me, but it's all good.
